Vancouver Mural Festival - Competition Winner

  Katami Designs was proud to be a part of the inaugural Vancouver Mural Festival. We had so much fun on the day and got to meet lots of lovely new people right in our back yard behind our studio on East Broadway. We're definitely looking forward to see what next year's festival has to offer.    To celebrate this great event, we ran an Instagram Workshop Giveaway Competition. All you had to do was snap a pic with you holding our huge bunch of Katami Designs balloons and post it on Instagram with the hash tag katamidesignsvmf. Simple!   And the winner is.......

Jasem Qaisi - Heyday

On July 28th we opened the doors of our gallery to a new found, hidden gem of an artist, Jasem Qaisi. Jasem is a painter from Iraq that I had the opportunity to meet a few weeks ago in our gallery during our second anniversary event on June 2nd.  Learning that he is from Iraq, ignited my curiosity as I had never met anyone from the country that we were in war with for nearly 8 years in the late 80's. We just turned 2!

It was a long but fantastic year full of creativity, late nights, take out foods, and a lot of giggles and excitements.  We've had 3 new resident artists moving in, 2 new artists added to our gallery space and had a sponsored event 'Art of Craft' at our gallery plus a few opening nights. In the midst of that, I managed to create 3 new collections and started teaching semi-private classes at our studio. Negar Khatami's Otas Collection

Otas (оташ) pronounced Otash, Tajik for fire, is the newest collection by Negar Khatami for Summer 2016. These bracelets feature antique tassels from a tiny little shop at Grand Bazaar in Istanbul that Negar hand picked. They are handmade by Tajik women to decorate their homes. When Negar handpicked these tassels in Turkey, she pictured the women creating these magnificent pieces. They create them to adorn their homes and caravans that their husband would travel with, wishing them luck and safety until they returned home.
